As the season of summer hails the arrival of sandal-wearing weather and feet are finally unveiled from their sock-clad winter footwear, we bring you our top tips for keeping feet looking and feeling good…
Keep your feet fresh
As the weather warms up, a cool shower is the ideal way to refresh yourself. Keeping your feet clean is important for preventing the growth of bacteria – and to keep them smelling fresh, of course! However, as you step out of the shower don’t forget to dry in between your toes.
Scrub up well
Your feet work hard bearing the brunt of weight and movement everyday, and as a result of this calluses appear on many women’s feet. Although perfectly natural in that they are simply a thickening of skin in response to frequent friction, calluses can be unsightly as they look like dry, hard skin. A simple solution is to remove them using pumice stones after a long soak in a hot bath, which soften them. Painless and not too time consuming, put in some elbow grease to buff calluses away: this is essentially a deep exfoliation for your feet.
Treat your feet
The skin on your feet is just the same as that on your hands: over time, it can become dry and flaky. Replenish the moisture that the skin on your feet loses using a rich moisturizer regularly. Whilst you’re applying the moisturiser, gently massage the arch, ball, heels and toes of each foot to help relieve muscle tension and leave your feet feeling soothed. Alternatively, convince a loved one into giving you a well-deserved foot rub! Either way, if you are planning on wearing socks, shoes or slippers afterwards, be sure that the moisturiser is thoroughly soaked in.
Pamper time
Once your feet are primed, a pedicure will ensure that they look their very best in your new open toe sandals. So set aside some time to work on your toenails: ensure that they are clipped and filed before completing the TLC with some nail varnish or gel polish (which lasts even longer), using toe separators in order to make it a quick, easy and frustration-free job. For a natural look, try a coat of clear varnish or opt for a french manicure. For a bolder look try splashes of deeper colours, matching the colour of your toenails to that painted on your fingernails to ensure consistency!
